Acupuncture works by stimulating specific points which are located on or near the surface of the skin. The original (and ancient) theory behind Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is that the healthy functioning of the body is governed by the flow of “qi” (often translated as “energy”) through a system of channels under the skin. When this flow of qi is impaired, illness occurs. By inserting fine needles at various points along the channels, the body’s balance can be restored and the illness resolved.

Research has shown that in fact these points have high concentrations of nerve endings, lymphatics and capillaries, all capable of triggering biochemical and physiological changes in the body. Acupuncture can release neurotransmitters and endorphins, the body’s natural pain-killing hormones.

During your initial consultation with Rebecca you will have an in depth discussion regarding your presenting condition as well as a comprehensive case history of your health history. During this time you will also discuss your goals for treatment and develop a specific timeline for your own personal healing.

If you require herbal prescriptions this can also be discussed and prescribed during this time. If you only require herbal medicine this can be booked as a specific 'herbal consult'.

Need to talk it through? Please get in touch and we can work out the best way forward.

Pregnancy

Congratulations on your pregnancy! This is an extremely special time of life but it can also be an emotional roller coaster.

Nurturing your body and taking care of your health gives you the best chance of a healthy and happy pregnancy. However, sometimes pregnancy can have its challenges and requires some additional support to get you through. Women come in for a variety of concerns which can be addressed each session through the beauty of holistic natural medicine.

We suggest seeing the birth parent weekly in the first trimester as they await the 12 week scan, as well as in the final weeks leading up to the birth (from 35 weeks). Throughout the entire process  we can provide guidance and helpful strategies to have you feeling calm and empowered throughout your pregnancy journey.

I often see women for nausea, pain, swelling/oedema plus a range of other pregnancy-related conditions. I want to support you on your unique pregnancy journey. Whether it’s your first or third pregnancy, your needs must be prioritised.

Postnatal

The arrival of your new baby is an exciting time but can also be exhausting and overwhelming. In Chinese medicine the first month after giving birth is crucial to the immediate and future health of both mother and baby. This is a time to rest, recuperate and be supported.

Many women face the challenges of fatigue and poor sleep; even when they do get the chance to rest. Common issues that can arise in those early months after the birth are with baby being unsettled, painful or numb caesarean scar, wrist pain from nursing, feeling overwhelmed, feeling run down and catching colds more easily. If you are having any breastfeeding issues, Chinese herbs and acupuncture can help boost milk supply, encourage let down  and help clear mastitis. Treatments may also regulate your hormones and balance moods.

Traditional Chinese medicine says ‘feed the mother to feed the child’. I provide space for women to come in feel supported and have some ‘me time’. We suggest that women are seen within the first 10 days after birth, fortnightly for the first 3 months and monthly thereafter.

General Wellbeing

For a lot of people, sorting out their health can often fall to the end of their to-do lists. Whether it be stress, an over scheduled lifestyle, looking after the family or just life getting away from us – we generally tend to just get on with it.

So much so, that often period pain is considered normal, tension headaches are all too frequent, a good night sleep becomes an issue, moods fluctuate a little too much and frequent bloating becomes an almost daily event. But just because these symptoms are common, that doesn’t mean that have to be your normal.

You may have checked in and got blood tests, scans and other examinations with no explanation as to why you’re feeling so lousy. Sometimes we need the extra support to enable us to make the changes needed to get us feeling at our best. Chinese medicine looks at any imbalances that may be causing a disharmony and contributing to your symptoms. We work with you to identify any problems that might be occurring in your health.

Pain Management

Pain in your back, neck, joints and muscles can be caused by so many factors – sitting at a desk too long, stress, a physically demanding job or training, recent or past injuries, chronic depression, postural problems or inflammation.

Acute pain is usually more sudden and severe including when we have a new injury. These conditions often require frequent treatments for a few weeks until they are under control.

Chronic pain is dysfunction which persists beyond 12 weeks and can be associated with chronic disease or depression. Treating chronic pain usually takes consecutive treatments over a longer period of time.

Rebecca works closely with physiotherapists, osteopaths and chiropractors in Hobart to help get your pain and injuries under control quickly.

   Cosmetic Rejuvenation

Cosmetic Acupuncture / Facial Rejuvenation is an all-natural, non-toxic and painless treatment which smooths skin, enhances radiance and reduces the signs of ageing from the inside out. Fine lines may be entirely erased, deeper lines reduced and bags around neck and eyes firmed.

These treatments are safe, relaxing, pain free, chemical free and mostly they are long lasting with no down time. Celebrities such as Madonna, Gwyneth Paltrow and Sandra Bullock have regular cosmetic acupuncture to keep them looking naturally young and sparkly.

Cosmetic Acupuncture involves a standard body acupuncture treatment as well as   a specifically designed 'facial' treatment using specialised needles, facial massage, Gua Sha (‘Glow Sha’) or cupping to slow the signs of ageing, tuneup your skin to bring back your youthful glow. Each treatment also comes with LED light therapy.

It is recommended that facial rejuvenation Acupuncture be taken in weekly blocks of 8-10 treatments.
